LE/TECL 1000 3.00   Disruptive Technology Innovation & Entrepreneurship


Course Description:

Technology can create, reshape and destroy whole industries. AirBnB, UBER, digital cameras and cell phones are some recent examples. This course introduces concepts of how technology can create opportunities leading to new industries or disruption of existing industries. Topics to be introduced include 3D printing, drones, robotics/automation, sensors, AI and big data, genomic sequencing, nanotech/advanced materials, microfluidics/microfabrication, energy storage/renewable energy/sustainability, blockchain and the internet of things. These topics are made accessible to students of non-technical disciplines. Insights gained into tech disruption will be encapsulated within concepts of entrepreneurship to empower students to distinguish between technology hype vs reality and assist in forecasting future high-impact industry sectors. Pre-requisites: Consent of the Instructor.
