This course covers the basic aspects of space mission design from a "blank sheet". It includes mission design structure using systems engineering approaches to the design problem. Mission design starts with a set of mission objectives and aims to develop a viable solution for meeting these objectives given a set of technical cost and programmatic constraints. This course brings together systems engineering, mission types, objectives, technical readiness, risk mitigation, mission subsystems, and cost estimation. Three lecture hours. Prerequisites: LE/ESSE 4360 or permission of the instructor.
